Here we go! @rudyfraser.com is describing matters of representing/supporting Black communities on social media. Turns to technical infrastructure: open source, user support, & other considerations. Thinking about systems that are sustainable, and that can operate well into the future.

From scholars working on independent projects to gatherings of #BlackDH centers and initiatives, it's been a great week at the Africana Digital Humanities @ HBCU's Convening! Keynote convo'ing w/ Kenton Rambsy & the GOAT Maryemma Graham; amazing panels for days + basking in Colored Conventions-isms

Now take quantum sims & make them accessible— NLP that anyone can play with. Two turntables & a pocket of qubits? Also, thinking @ curation, a lá @lillianyvonne.bsky.social. Not merely machine generation, but working in relationship w/ computation to *see*, or maybe feel, differently. Entangling.

Our first example follows mimicking Markov chains and blackout poetry refracted thru quantum processing. Thinking about entanglement, the introduction of dynamism — the power of context-driven generation — to remix hip-hop, meaning music and poetry.

Apparently I am live-skying my heart.

Now we are bathed in Patricia Hill Collins’ deep intelligence, pointing us toward thinking @ AI & social relations. It feels good to be brought to attention by a person of such immense capacity to focus us in witness of her critical gaze.

Today? Advising projs, teaching my Black Digitalities grad course, & sitting @ this talk by @safiyanoble.bsky.social (How’s that for burying the lede?🌟) Moving constantly btw headlines & actually getting my job done. It’s a devilish both/and. Talks like this remind us why we must also do what we do

In this conversation with @umd-arhu.bsky.social, Jayson Porter, Hackett reminds us of Édouard Glissant, a Caribbean philosopher’s idea of opacity— the right to not always taking responsibility for translating cultural knowledge. Much at stake in thinking about where we locate archival material.

I should note that this Graphic History of Hip-Hop talk features live sketching by Tim Fielder! Illustrated notes, audience portraits. I am suspended between wholesomeness and innovation. Let us stay here forever in these times 😍

Near and dear: @walterdgreason.bsky.social talking about his transition from working as a software engineer/game dev to PhD to using his critical media & computational skills to dev texts like the Wakanda Syllabus and this graphic history, as well as rocking #blackdigitalhumanities in general

Today at Maryland-College Park? Walter Greason and Tim Fielder talking about The Graphic History of Hip-Hop!

What better way to slink back onto the socials than to say how happy @aadhum-umd.bsky.social is to host members of the Afrotechtopia @busboysandpoets.bsky.social Hyattsville! We are joining Ari Melenciano and Jeremy Kamal in celebrating Black Metal, an art book based in Black speculative design!

Ask me about listening to Dana Williams talk about the uses of data in examining Toni Morrison’s editorial legacy, because… swoon. Here at #NMAAHC for the
