That stat has been doing the rounds since long before this year's NY mayoral race. You can find reports like it going back to the Bush era, if not before.

All of that is true, but then so if the fact that people with a vocation will often do the same work for less money than those who are just seeking economic advantage. This is a phenomenon of which Gov'ts of all stripes seek to take advantage.
