Cats are great.
Child protection solicitor in England for 25 years.
Described as an old cynic. The description is correct.
I really, really want this.

You will not find Joan of Arc in the bible,
She is something stranger than scripture.
Her sword rattles among the saints,
Arms aching for another fight.

This is a fascinating thread. Thank you so much for writing it.

Worst thing is when you have to run your questions by the intermediary and you quote directly from the statement and the intermediary says the wording is too difficult for the witness.

The number of arrests in the day is not a fair comparison. With a violent event the police priority is to keep as many officers at the event to try and keep rioters contained. As with last year’s riots the arrests and prison sentences follow weeks later.

Usual police tactic at such violent events is to keep police on site to try and maintain order. The arrests come in the following weeks having identified offenders on video. That is what happened after riots last year.

The second really good burn I read today. First was the FT writing “… the far-right convict Tommy Robinson …”.

I absolutely loved it, particularly the tiger (that was not at all influenced by the cat bus in Totoro).

Thank you for this helpful article. Another article on the likelihood of these recommendations being properly funded-in light of cuts in local authority funding since 2010 - would also be enlightening.

Also the best way to get social workers to go away is to cooperate fully so that they can see that there are no problems. Social Workers have heavy caseloads. If you show that the only issue is your child being trans they will most likely offer you advice that you already know.

Just been on the website of the “leading firm”. They have 8 solicitors in Care proceedings over 3 cities but only 2 of those solicitors are stated to be on one of the specialist panels for care proceedings. This is not a the stuff of which leading firms are made.

Cannot see anywhere in the Guardian article that Lady Hale says the judgment was not well understood. She says that it has been misinterpreted. And misinterpretation occurs more often from malice than lack of clarity. The Supreme Court judgement warns against this. Clearly to no avail.

Correct. If I ever get to cross-examine them they never lost control with the Hells Angel in the pub. They never lost control with the police officer.

Thank you. So case of people leaving the country to avoid tax. I had confused myself by thinking about the (disproved?) Laffer curve that claims an increase in tax rates causes a drop in revenue because of “reasons”.

Can you give an example please of when this happened ( that raising the tax rate lowered the amount collected). Thanking you in advance.
