also the dynamic range voice chat does crazy things to the "room feel" of the game. Really makes you feel trapped and alone when you don't hear your friends anymore

I think real fear in games for me really comes from a place where design choices worl very well together. So for me: Subnautica. Even though it's technically no horror game, the crazy anxiety I felt when looking into the depths and hearing those roars... What an experience.

The map design is fantastic, I love that it's really playful in its design there. I generally feel that the game is also really balanced in its storytelling. It walks a perfect line between not knowing what's really going on and having just enough information to keep me engaged. Loved it.
