C4 modelling is a great way of doing design simple. A top down approach with few diagramming options, leads to clear, consistent and understandable pictures

At the beginning of a project, the design should be simple and quick (a back of the envelope design), a quick context and container diagram with a little more effort on a component, just to set the foundations of the solution out.
No more, no less.

When asked to work on a completely new product ( green field development ) a Minimum Viable Architecture, should be considered to get a project going.

Do just enough design to articulate the concept and cover the major considerations.
For every project, no matter size, I would consider the following areas. Performance, Scalability, Extensibility, Usability, Observability, Security and Agility.

Keep design light and relevant to the goal. Implement change, deploy continuously and validate.

Designing too much up front risks building for scenarios that never occur. No design risks building too much technical debt that cannot be repaid.
Just Enough Design promotes continuous design aligned with development and deployment, to make incremental improvements towards a bigger goal.

Hi Tracey.
Thanks for the info I didn’t know it reduced the sour taste, that’s interesting to know.
As for why, it has been a measurement that has worked for me. I also want to experiment to see the effect on the bake.
What measurements do you use?

If anyone is interested I can post measures and method.
