Software Developer. Mostly C#.
I have been doing unspeakable things to Entity Framework for the last week. A big SQL migration is coming up, and we'll have to support two different column types for the same table across multiple databases for a while. It's amazing all of this is even possible, but if *feels* almost illegal.

So dystopian when you submit a support request and you receive a corporate standard reply that doesn't even show the slightest hint they've read your question. Makes me sad.

Random tip: `dotnet watch run --non-interactive` pairs rather nicely with `git bisect`. Perfect for when you run into a "but that was still working last week!" kind of scenario.

Silver lining: software companies without comprehensive automated quality control have a severe disadvantage when it comes to AI.

AI might be able to generate lines of code, but can it sprinkle delightful little jokes in them? I love these little slices of humanity.

I was reminded again today that every possible little thing in your life has an entire universe behind it. 1/3

Chuckled heartily today when I was politely told by my cloud provider that, while they could configure daily database backups for me starting from today, they unfortunately would not be able to provide me with backups from before today. I'm now disappointed by their lack of time travel capabilities⌛

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

Today I learned that you can have a .gitignore file with default exclusions for your entire machine: stackoverflow.com/questions/57...
Can I make a user-specific gitignore file?
I want to change the gitignore, but not everyone on the team wants these changes. How can a user have their own specific gitignore file?

Switch expressions turn out to be really useful for static fields!

Pro tip: want to improve your C# code coverage? Use ArgumentNullException.ThrowIfNull(), cancellationToken.ThrowIfCancellationRequested() and HttpResponseMessage.EnsureSuccessStatusCode() ! Hide those logical branches from the code coverage police! 😎Only half joking.

How nice of @twexit.nl to provide an easy way to mute all the Dutch on here. Much appreciated! Signed, 🇧🇪

Looks like the race between the bird app and its competitors has not been called yet. I for one hope that the bird itself does not remain king, both here and Mastodon seem much more promising conceptually.
