And the scripts are almost identical. If you are going to revisit much loved stories then build on them (prequels, sequels, a different perspective)

Elphaba's childhood; her time with Fiyero; the Animal movement; the Wizard reveal; and of course, the bond between the main characters is richer in Chu's adaptation.

Sure, more money is to be made if you split the project in two, but if it benefits the story then it's the right creative choice
