What really hits the spot is where the art style and writing style feel aligned. This is possibly hugely subjective. But those are the covers/books that I remember.

In this case three soldiers in front of a spaceship would be great. - huge bonus points if the ship and gear look like the ones described in the story!

Personally it feels a bit bad when covers don't match the story - dragons when the story doesn't have dragons for example. But as long as it feels like someone involved with the cover has read the story it's all good! A lot of my favourite covers are pretty vibes based.

You see this attitude with disabled people too, especially with things that are not physically obvious.
