The FLUX Team (ERC Project)
@amgc-flux-team.bsky.social
We are a research team at VUB's AMGC lab, focused on reconstructing Earth's intake of extraterrestrial material across geological time. Work funded by the ERC.
Lastly, the FLUX PhD and Post-docs wrapped up their week at the #EPSC with a few group photos! 📸 ☄️😀

The team was happy to be presenting at #goldschmidt2025 in #Prague! On Tuesday last week, Clara, Deepak, Jannes and Julius presented posters on their analysis of various new micrometeorite collections, plus some interesting new cosmochemical data! ☄️ @amgc-vub.bsky.social

These past two weeks have included quite a bit of work with the SEM! Today various members, including Julius and Lisa (below), have been imaging polished sections of their cosmic spherule finds! ☄️😀

It's nearing the end of another productive week! Today's post features @fienjo.bsky.social and Samuele hunting for cosmic spherules, as well as @trygveprestgard.bsky.social measuring micrometeorites using the Raman spectrometer! Included is also an image showing *some* finds made by Sam this week!

We are happy to end the day with this relatively large (>400 µm) S-type cosmic spherule find, most likely of the "Barred olivine (Bo)" subtype! This sample was found in Antarctic sediments. ☄️😀
April 2, 2025 at 4:06 PM
On Tuesday we collected abundant new Raman spectra of over a dozen cosmic spherules! We look forward to analyzing the data in detail ☄️😀

This week starts with Lisa conducting SEM/EDX analysis of several tens of cosmic spherule candidates! Today's samples were only recently identified by our various FLUX team members here @amgc-vub.bsky.social. ☄️😁

The micrometeorites keep rolling in here @amgc-vub.bsky.social! Here are six (among several tens) of cosmic spherule candidates recently spotted by Samuele in Antarctic sediments! ☄️✨

Today, among other activities, @fienjo.bsky.social and Julius are diligently searching through sand for tiny cosmic spherules @amgc-vub.bsky.social ! Below are only a couple of the spherules that they have uncovered. Great job! ☄️👍
March 13, 2025 at 3:04 PM
The micrometeorite hunting here @amgc-vub.bsky.social continues! Today our team came across this "large" 0.5-mm cosmic spherule candidate! For comparison, we have also included a selection of "ordinary" micrometeorites, typical of what we find on a weekly basis ☄️✨
March 11, 2025 at 5:36 PM
It's a busy week at @amgc-vub.bsky.social's FLUX team! Among the ongoing activities, Deepak and @trygveprestgard.bsky.social are hunting and verifying potential micrometeorite finds from two different deserts! ☄️✨

Hello, we are the FLUX team, a research group at @amgc-vub.bsky.social focused on studying Earth's extraterrestrial intake across the Phanerozoic! We are especially focused on cosmic dust variations and how these can be used to further our understanding of the Solar System and Earth's past climate ☄️
