The real task isn’t “teaching people to spot misinformation.” It’s rebuilding conditions where verification, deliberation and accountability are possible. Critical thinking only works when the world around it gives those skills a place to take root.

People lump everything under “fake news,” but misinformation, disinformation and malinformation are different. They can come from different actors and operate differently, mixing them into one category hides how these systems form, adapt and reinforce themselves.

We've been fed the "we're all just animals who are one missed extra guac on a burrito away from tearing society down" line for a long time but the reality is that we ARE animals - social animals. Pro-social actions and empathy are as innate in us as the capacity for violence, and much more common.
