Agreed. I think Glasner spoke the other day and said he deserves more minute but I guess it’s difficult with Devenny and Franca very much in the same role.

Can’t see it happening until next summer. He’d be £80m, a lot of money in this market.

More #CPFC squad thoughts. I know he’s had his injury issues but I can’t help but be excited about a Wharton and Doucoure midfield. Hopefully Cheick can have a proper preseason.

Mateta was powerful. He missed a penalty, but aside from that was his usual chaotic self. Made a run from the halfway line passing both Kamara and Konsa before putting an inch perfect ball in on his weak foot for Sarr. That slide tackle in his own box summarised the entire teams performance.

Sarr was MOTM. 2 goals and an assist. Games like this suit his game down to the ground. His raw pace hurt Villa today but that shouldn’t take away from his finishing which was clinical on the biggest stage. If he could had the ball he would’ve scored 4.

Eze is a star. You don’t have a goal catalogue like his without being an unbelievable talent. His technique is out of this world and today he was able to apply that to be the heart of our attack.

Daichi Kamada has found his confidence. It’s great to see a player so maligned by our fans turn it around. Like Wharton he was tenacious and disciplined defensively. On the ball he was sharp and expressive, even setting up Sarr for a big chance. Starting him was a bold move that payed off.

Adam Wharton is a special talent. His usual quick thinking and passing was effective and led to the penalty. However, yesterday’s performance was more about his defensive capabilities. Disciplined and tenacious, Wharton kept winning the ball in dangerous positions starting counter attacks.

Daniel Muñoz is a madman who will never stop running. By his standards yesterday was a quiet game. He did his defensive duties well and constantly provided threats on the counter.

Tyrick Mitchell missed a sitter, he’s probably the person you’d least like it to fall to in that scenario. Outside of that he did what he did best and that is stopping wingers. Both Rogers and Bailey are immense dribblers who got little to no change out of T.
April 27, 2025 at 9:28 AM
Chris Richards has slotted into this team so well. Whilst clearly the weakest of the back three, he is probably the strongest in the air and his aerial dominance was much needed yesterday.
April 27, 2025 at 9:25 AM
Maxence Lacroix plays with his heart on his sleeve. Another immense performance from his yesterday. He sweeps up everything in that central role and has built such a good relationship with Guehi and Richards.

Marc Guehi is such a good leader for this team. He wasn’t involved in any incisive moments but the leadership and organisation stemming from him to keep that Villa attack quiet when we were sitting deeper is remarkable.
