Infinitely curious Texan dedicated to democracy, the inherent worth and dignity of every person, and a free and responsible search for truth. She/her/ella
Truth is stranger than fiction. Just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating, I reached out to reporters I knew and asked what they thought

They're still laughing

🤦🏽‍♀️

But my real question is this: how is this administration so dense AND yet still so destructive???

If you were buying toy dinosaurs, would you get the glow in the dark ones or the regular ones? I'm leaning towards glow in the dark

Every first Monday before the Border Vigil I ask Maverick County officials if any migrants drowned or died of exposure in the previous month. If there were no deaths, we use yellow in our memorial service.

Tonight we'll be using white flowers in memory of the needless deaths in our county.

I'm not exactly sure where in the album they were when we started disagreeing, but this is what I was describing. It's from March 2025, it's a photo of the entrance to Shelby Park and the armed soldiers on Main Street barring us from entry prior to the Border Vigil

It amuses me, but also when it's a real person it's not too awkward to explain away. Those first interactions can be so challenging!

Morning café and chisme. What have you heard recently that you're dying to pass on?

Surprise sign at a domestic gate. Domestic!

Mellow Monday morning. What are y'all up to today?

Core memory unlocked: I looked up and instantly remembered the sweet taste of these beans when I was a kid. The hotter and drier the weather, the sweeter the mesquite beans are. I wonder if there are any mesquite flour producers on the border, I bet it makes an amazing bread.

Instead of schools and hospitals, Maverick County got a military base. Where did your tax dollars go?

Good morning from Eagle Pass! The pomegranates are looking amazing and yesterday I had some figs to die for. What's your favorite summer fruit?

How We Knew It Was a Deer: Teeth: Herbivore molars (flat grinding surfaces). Skull: No pronounced sagittal crest (unlike carnivores). Bone Size: Femur length matches local deer populations. (And that's what Google lens told us) #SARSaturday #LearnSomethingNew

Forensic Botany 101. Skull shape + teeth + leg bones = likely a deer. (Sorry, true crime fans, no mystery here.) But! Key lessons: How environmental scatter affects remains, why multiple finds matter for context, and trusting your team when perspectives shift. #WildlifeRecovery

Today’s @BorderVigil Search and Recovery training: We located a skull on a line search! (Wow!) Marked GPS coordinates, and documented it. Then—plot twist—we reset, scrambled positions, and did it again blind. Found more bones the second time! #SAR #FieldTraining

The soldiers boosted our restaurants and hotels, but an external provider swooped in and picked up a $14million monthly contract to feed and house the Texas troops. Everything is rented, nothing belongs to the state.

Eagle Pass hasn't ever had a lot of vigilantes or ICE. What we had starting in 2021 were State of Texas law enforcement and later National Guard and we've always had Border Patrol.

As we walked down the boat ramp we waved at friends from Mexico who had been following the Border Vigil service from across the Rio Grande. Our communities are sisters, what one side feels, the other does, too.

This was such a beautiful moment. Each month we end the Border Vigil by placing flowers in the river. This month there were human remains found and no migrant deaths in Maverick County, so we had yellow sunflowers instead of white flowers.

At coffee with my father and his friends, one of the men is showing us a 1970 Mexican 20 centavo piece. I've never seen or used these in my life. Our BBB discussion about inflation and economics is pretty intense this morning!

Not a fan of CBP agents wearing gaiters over their faces. At least this Border Patrol officer was in full uniform at the hwy 57 checkpoint.
