what's your adhesive for affixing washer to slide? I was thinking hot glue, but surely that only works for porous stuff...

my understanding is that you get the Isaly's block of chopped ham then slice it real thin ("chipped"), then cook it in the ketchup + coke mixture for a few hours?

we use the same "goo topped with ethanol" method to position and photograph beetle genitalia, but use K-Y instead of gel sanitizer. I'm not sure whether one is strictly a superior method, but one is definitely funnier to have in the background in a zoom call

We had brilliant and hardworking experts in massive, critically important taxa forced to compete to keep their job. Like the old Harvard practice of hiring 2 guys for the same position and making them fight.
