Also thought I’d add the time lapse video to show how this small painting came together. And let me see if I can tag them, this is for @paeartforacause.bsky.social

Back in 2024, I participated in the Postcard Art Exhibit, a charity event artists can donate 5” x 7” pieces. This year it’s far from me, but I wanted to send another. Hopefully a good progression from the last!

Here’s a better image of just the painting, rather than the oddly formatted post header. #painting

The latest blog post; this one is about planning for larger paintings. I don't usually prepare much, but this was sort of a practice run for using a large canvass. #painting #art #artist #oilpainting #portrait

Finishing Touches of a Portrait. The last post in a series, here I’m painting the last details using mostly brighter oil mixes (titanium white, small amounts of ochre, sienna, umber). Dropping some texture and highlights to emphasize certain areas.

Hard to believe it’s already been three years of painting! I first picked up a brush back in September 2022, and since then I’ve painted 260 portraits. Definitely looking forward to more painting in the years to come!

Here's the latest blog post, featuring the painting I just shared from the shop. As usual, I've included some background on the piece and links to various videos and other related things. This was a fun painting…

I don’t think I’ve tried sharing videos here directly, but here is a time lapse from a longer demo I put together. Kind of a “Paint With Me” style video. #painting #portrait #art #demo

This is going back a bit, but it’s a painting I really like. I think the color selection worked well, and I am happy with the expressive eyes and hands. #art #painting #portrait

I love painting nature backgrounds in portraits, and I wanted to experiment with water effects like ripples. I liked this concept enough that I might want to try a larger piece with more people. #art #artist #portrait

I tried painting in a sketchbook for the first time - harder than I thought it would be. I think the black paper made it even more of a challenge #sketchbook #art #painting

My latest painting, messing around with light and silhouettes. I really enjoyed the bright light effects here #painting #portrait #art

One big emphasis lately has been natural sitting poses. My hope is to keep working at depicting subjects in normal relaxed poses until those solid efforts mostly overtake the rough. #art #painting #portrait

One day left for 30% off giclee art prints! Biggest sale I’ve had since I opened the Etsy shop. Looks like Etsy is also giving an extra $5 off, which is even better. Best time to grab an art print: www.etsy.com/shop/AmdallG...

Top 4 favorite illustrations for this year? For me, one from the summer and the other three more recent. First year of painting has been fun! #art

Very cool idea, thanks for the thread! I’m Jon, a portrait art hobbyist- mostly oils, some pencil sketching too.

This painting is one from a couple months ago that I real like. I love experimenting with contrast and color values and this had some nice things going in that realm. It’s also an expressive portrait which I don’t think I can always accomplish.

I’m currently going through a phase where I like to try to reproduce the same portrait using oil paint and then again using pencil. Sometimes, I’m able to get them fairly close - like with this red haired girl portrait. But other instances, the portraits somehow end up diverging.

I’ve been painting for about a year now, and in that time I’ve done about 155 portraits. I want to start sharing some art here, but where to start? I’m not going to try to go all the way back, but I will start with a few slightly older oil paintings. Here’s one of my favorites:
