128k bank switching all over all over the world
Considering treble-buffering with the third buffer being double the size of the small view window so I can draw the current view and the next view side by side then attribute scroll to simulate turning. In my head it should work and be much quicker than redrawing. At least might be fun to try

Rainy morning

There’s a bit of sky (or darkness) that remains black throughout my game and I’m tempted to put a bit of code there as a kind of tribute to old games that did that out of necessity. Maybe just some black on black text like speccy loading screen easter eggs

Two words. Second one “cold”. I wonder where that plane’s going somewhere warmer probably

Muddy snow or snowy mud one of the two

I never really knew much about Jeff Buckley but watching a show on bbc4 thinking it’s a bit like early Radiohead or muse. Dead right says Wikipedia who mention those as being influenced. Not particularly catchy but I quite like it tbh

I always smile when I pass this sign carefully split in two across two fence posts. It somehow reminds me of speccy faux-3d and my own attempts (kind of the opposite though)

I think this was a kestrel hovering over the field this morning. Looked bigger in real life

Some excitement this morning although obviously not great that a stretched fire service has to deal with this on bonfire weekend. Obviously not a kickstart 2 fan

Tonight Matthew I’m going to be a football fan as an excuse to have a couple of beers

I needed a prefix for obfuscated fields so I could tell by looking at the data so went with -o- which has unlocked a memory about ASCII tie fighters. Something like that but for all the variations

Big rainbow this morning

I just realised that Alan Partridge's "How are you!?" in the opening credits is a possible nod to Delia's "Where are you!?" what with the Norwich connection

Early start for dog walkers and loggers

Re-watching The Third Day which I enjoyed (always been a bit of a folk horror fan) - it bears a rewatch. Picking up different things the second time around

Presenting a poster at a scientific conference is a whole sub-culture I wasn't aware of. You stand next to your poster and answer questions about it. I really like that. Your work is presented in a form that might catch someone's attention, summarises it for them, then they get to ask you questions

Scotch mist this morning and more blight affected trees cleared. Starting to look like a kickstart 2 course

I love figuring things out and learning a bit more about something I find interesting. Like machine code. But I get a strange lonely feeling the closer I get to mastering something. Like I’m nearing the top of a lonely mountain. Sharing helps but online communities can also make you feel lonely

I’ve never heard of temu but immediately understood “temu (thing this is a crap version of)” and I feel like this is how I understand a lot of modern culture. Occasionally being completely wrong, of course

I enjoy when people put themselves out there to entertain and enjoy themselves, but I get stage fright and a bit embarrassed on their behalf even though they are great. It’s even hard to watch sometimes, even though it’s amazing
September 23, 2025 at 7:57 PM
I like how different streaming platforms use different terms for the same thing. “Keep watching” “Continue where you left off” “Films” “Movies” “Horror” …

A for statement without a test condition looks like it's seen some shit and it probably has

They’ve been logging the blight affected trees. These actually gave off a wonderful smell. Perhaps they’re still fine for timber or maybe they’re headed for nurgle’s garden

I have decided to be mentally strong for a period of time. At least 2 weeks, out of necessity. This is how things work for me sometimes (everybody’s different!)

Another visual metaphor for 8 bit machine code. When bank switching it’s useful to have a “trampoline” method in non switchable code to allow banked memory to call other banked memory. The control flow trampolines from e.g bank 1 -> trampoline -> bank 2 -> trampoline -> bank 1
