I had Duke of My Heart on my TBR (likely from a previous FM episode) already and this nudged me to download it (thanks, Hoopla!), and damn this is a hell of an opening.

The silken ribbon was wide, its superior quality was evident, and it must have been expensive, a luxury only the very wealthy could afford. On the brim of a bonnet, it would have been impressive. On the bodice of a ball gown, it would have been spectacular. Wrapped around the limbs of a dead earl, however, it was a problem.

Jimmy Carter said he wanted to outlive the last guinea worm on earth, and while he didn’t quite make it, it was so close it must have been almost unimaginable when the Carter Center eradication effort began in 1986.
