But the cost of higher education here is astronomical. Not to mention, that many of us are still paying off our predatory student loans we were duped into borrowing for our own educations. None of this even touches on all of the “normal” expenses of raising children.

Oh, and if you have a kid with any kind of medical issues, just count on having medical debt forever (I think there may have been a year or two in my 9 years of parenthood that I haven’t owed our local children’s hospital money). We’re supposed to be saving for our children’s education.

Then there’s no guaranteed paid parental leave. Even the FMLA doesn’t apply to many people’s employers. Oh and if both parents need to work, which is almost a given with the cost of things these days, childcare costs are astronomical.
