On Sunday, I did a day-long pilgrimage, and we walked over the old East-West german border. We carried rocks from the west to the east, and left them at a chapel that had been used by DDR soldiers as a hangout and then restored in the 90.
The medieval chapel in Friedland, Lower Saxony. It’s stone with a short belfry and surrounded by grass. The sky is gray. A sign along the Loccum-Volkenroda pilgrimage, showing the setup of the former border crossing between Lower Saxony and Thüringen. A wooden sign saying “Pilgerweg” with a round metal sign showing “no pooping dogs allowed” below it. A wooden carved lion, painted, on the pulpit in an old church in Germany. It’s cute and somewhat childish. Endearing. I want it.

The Rettungsdienst (EMTs) in this Krankenwagen were the best Elizabeth has had this month. (Yes, she’s needed them enough to compare). The doctor she saw was also great this time, and recognized her from her Christmas concert solo. #SilverLinings
