At least we get a little insight into Hapan culture in chapter 7 and it’s… exactly every dude’s first vision of a matriarchy in 1994: Cold, condescending women calling me useless and ruling through violent oppression.

As if the novel itself hadn’t rendered Leia completely without agency already, Han Solo has now used a literal mind-control gun to kidnap her.
Why bother with the mind-control gun? This version of Leia already just does whatever the sleaziest man around last told her to?

And Leia has just been relieved of duty because diplomacy is just too hard for the woman who was trained in diplomacy by arguably the greatest politicians in the Old Republic.

Chapter 6 and BIG TWIST, it turns out Han Solo is secretly a king also! In addition to casually winning planets in card games, his grandfather was a king. Also, being wooed by royalty is “every woman’s dream.”
I’m not convinced this author has ever spoken to a woman.

Also, the author seems to have forgotten that Leia was a soldier who lead a military uprising for five years and has personally killed dozens of men, because the first time violence breaks out she is a helpless maiden who can’t shoot straight and must be scooped up in manly arms.

Also the Hapans are apparently matriarchal because after the Jedi killed all the pirates they just… left all the hot babes they’d been kidnapping on what planet, and then Step 3 was “Become the richest polity in the galaxy.”
