AI-generated anime girls for those who got to the end:

And that worked and will work perfectly, at least until one of the big tech companies will buy every studio, and the UN outlaws game-making without a big tech license that you can get only from one company. And even then - I would be very excited to see the underground punk game dev scene.

So 'm not saying it's perfect, all I'm saying is:

There is no fight. So please stop pretending. It's just supply and demand.

Is the market is good for games as art? Maybe not, casual gamers prefer f2p, Assassins Creed, CoD and other "safe brand" games of sufficient quality, but are increasingly careful to engage with unknown or more experimental brands and games.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
We can use Baldurs Gate 3 and Elden Ring as perfect AAA examples of a - if it's good, it's good. Both of these games, if you stop and look are WOKE AF. But both of them sold well because they are just good products that captured the interest of hardcore and casual gamers alike.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
Especially these days when it's possible to create products for very specific groups and find them as well. Starting from furry games to specific simulators with DLCs that cost in thousands of dollars (look up the prices and amount of content of various simulator games).
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
You can't blame audiences for not buying something. It's the devs or publishers' fault for not engaging the audiences interest.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
But not to be unfair - sometimes "the other side", bloggers or journalists will say that: game X failed because gamers are racist, sexist, and other bad things.

THAT IS ALSO NOT CORRECT.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
And besides no one with money is out to lose it, they (at least investor firms) want more money, so no, they will not be funding the campaign to turn people woke, well at least if there isn't any money to earn, and I don't see why woke people would have or spend more money.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
Even though there are conspiracies that someone is giving away billions to make "frogs gay", it's a bad plan because if no one likes woke games then they don't play them and don't turn gay.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
Because the participants in the market are there for their own selfish reasons - to make money. So if people like the game, they buy and devs can continue doing what they did, if people don't like it, then either the company goes down or they pivot to a different game.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
And if it turns out that every game will become gay=woke then it was the will of the market, in other words will of the people.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
If a game is good people buy it. If not then not. So the argument that without the people who fight by writing mean things to other people and game devs, all games will turn woke=bad, is totally baseless.

So there is no monopoly state. There is even piracy, that also works as a very strange way of balancing things out.

And market rewards developers that make what people want and punishes the ones that don't.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
And everything is perfect because there are so many ways to consume games (PS, Xbox, PC, Switch, mobile, browser etc), and so many publishers and developers from AAA to one-man indies. There are multiple marketplaces and these days more and more marketplaces are opening up to various devices

The video game market, on the content side at least, is a very well-self-regulating space. I'm talking about the content side, as videogame defenders are mostly angered about the breast size and sexuality of characters - so the content side.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
(Note: I'm simplifying this because ultimately this is not about the economy, I just like the idea of the invisible power controlling everything, because it correlates with what anti-woke fighters claim)
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
Hatmakers also employ people and buy materials from other craftsmen. And so everyone wins and the economy develops. That is The Invisible Hand arranging everything.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
So there are two hatmakers in town, they make hats because they want money. Customers of course need hats. So two hat makers keep each other's prices in check, and customers are free to choose and will reward the better hat maker, both are striving to create a quality product for reasonable prices.

Smith used the metaphor of an invisible hand to describe how the free market operates. His idea was that governments should have minimal regulatory influence in markets and that participants, though entering the market with selfish motives, ultimately work for the common good.
December 4, 2024 at 8:18 PM
So there was a guy called Adam Smith. He is the father of a lot of modern economic ideas.

His idea for The Invisible Hand can be applied to explain why video game warriors have no war to fight. (explanation bellow)

This has bugged me for quite some time - the baseless grand announcements that they are fighting a fight. Now I don't mind consumers choosing what they want to consume or not, it's the framing. And to explain why it's nonsense I will slightly abuse an 18 century Scotsman...
