FYI:P It is not unknown for foreigners to be barred from leaving China while a "dispute" is on-going, so that might have factored into the decision not to just leave.

I think one thing getting lost in the kerfuffle-shuffle is that Worldcon and the people involved - past and present - do so out of a love and passion for this genre.

I think everyone should remember that as a baseline, even as we deal with "issues".
