He was transitioning from male to female I'm not sure how it all worked, specifi- cally, but..he really wanted to have gender-reassignment surgery. It turns out that being a Charlie Chaplin imper- sonator doesn't bring in the kind of surplus of cash it takes to pay for such an operation. He needed some money. He also had cancer. Pretty bad. My un- derstanding of Dave's situation was that he was pretty much dying, and that he wanted to live out the rest of the little time he had left in the body of his choosing. (I'm using the words "he" and "his' because I only knew Dave when he was still going by "he.") So Yauch took care of it. He organized it so that we gave him the money for the operation, but it was under the gui- se of reimbursement and unpaid back royalties for the Polly Wog Stew record from 1982. Dave/Daisy got the operati- on, and then within a year passed away Without Dave Parsons, Beastie Boys probably would've been a punk band for a couple years, and that's it. We ne- ver would've taken it seriously.
