It’s always and ever been only about those with riches motivated to protect their wealth. Not about country, freedom or democracy. If you identify as wealthy, then protecting your wealth is to validate yourself. Other identities offer similar behaviors - race; religion; gender, etc.

On the global stage, things have both never been better and also have never been worse. We live in an area of great prosperity, wealth, and non-world war. I just don’t see the arc of history continuing it’s upward slope. Instead, we have likely peaked. I don’t see this ending well for us as a nation
