Two excellent finds for my library. This is why there is nothing better than a good independent bookstore.
I’ve been fascinated by Soviet history since visiting the USSR in 1985. And my interest in London goes back to reading Sherlock Holmes as a child

If on a winter’s night a traveler by Italo Calvino is one of my favorite books of all time. I’m hoping that this scratches the same itch.

Francis Spufford seems to get better with each book he writes. Or at least I think so. Third of the way through his new book.

I’ve written a lot of shelf talkers over the years, mostly in history and science fiction. This is my first kids book shelf talker

I’m currently reading The Fire Agent by David Baerwald. Yes, that David Baerwald. And it is simply incredible. Comes out next year, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. One of those books I want to rush through to find out what happens next, yet at the same time savor.

Katabasis by RF Kuang arrived today, easily my favorite novel of hers. Goes on the shelf next to Dante and Larry Niven. Highly recommended.

New books drop on Tuesday. Of all the titles that came today, the two I’m most interested in are a new biography of James Baldwin, and an anthology of stories set in the universe of The Stand by Stephen King.

I usually try to have a fiction and non fiction titles going at the same time. These should keep me busy for a couple of weeks.

I read quite a few history books every year, and there’s usually a few that really stand out. So far this year, the standout is America , America by Greg Grandin. Top shelf.

Nothing unusual on those artists, but here’s a few of my favorite lesser known titles

My fellow book sellers referred to this book as ‘Martin bait’. Given the three bookcases of jazz and blues titles at my house , I gotta say they aren’t wrong.

There is a phrase from If on a winter’s night a traveler by Calvino ‘books that fill you with a sudden inexplicable curiosity.’
This is one of those books.
