Sincere thanks for this post. It may not be on your radar, but the NEA also just announced a revision of its Grants for Arts Projects priorities to focus on projects that honor the 250th anniversary of the United States. Officially they will still consider all projects, but the intention is clear.

I really enjoyed both of those. You might add these two to your list. A delightful exploration of magical practice during the Age of Enlightenment, set against the Abolitionist movement in England and the French and Haitian Revolutions. Virtuosic, compelling. Highly recommend!
