Asset ownership is leverage
That is how Trump sees the world
Beyond splitting the world into 3, he must OWN his third of the world for leverage and power
No point in ASKING PERMISSION from Denmark to come into Greenland for defence
Just better to OWN Greenland

And having to defend one’s territory is a different animal altogether. This requires the will and ferocity of the people as well as the military capability.
Canadians are strong and extremely resilient and will do what they must do.

You are quite right that Canada has jumped in when democracy around the globe has been threatened. What’s more, Canada never waited until the 11th hour to do so. There has never been any question about what side of history they stand on.
What’s new is the possibility of having to defend its land.

My mistake - Canada is opening 3 hubs/base in Arctic and a consulate in Greenland.
Point still stands - that Canada has rapidly increased military spending in strategic ways.

Absolutely correct

It accomplishes nothing.

Canada is so over being pushed around by the US.

They are 100 years younger than the US and have now been pushed out of the nest.
It’s time to test their wings.

People on this thread seem to have no idea about Canada or its politics

Carney has been in constant communications w leaders in EU and Greenland for months.
Greenlanders are well aware of his position.
January 7, 2026 at 3:53 AM
Canada would never stand alone w the US
They would 100% stand w EU and NATO who (along w Canada) are scrambling to get ducks in order (eg Canada opening new base in Greenland among other things)
Canada’s sitn is unique in its proximity to US and it would be foolish for Carney to shoot his mouth off.

Good to leave that ‘thing’ in the WH guessing

Canada has been threatened multiple times - being named in that initial post w European leaders could cloud the mind of the ‘thing’
This way it keeps it clean and to the point without giving the ‘thing’ another excuse to lash out

Agree w Steve

What an embarrassment he is to the United States

That would be good, but then we have unreliable Russia and China with veto power.

Creating a new body would make a clean break.

The UN cannot kick the US out
Creating a new parallel body that excludes the US may be the way to go
