One thing that sticks with me (and may just be a plot hole, tbh) is that Charlie never once questioned that Vaggi would be going with her to heaven, even when she thought she was a sinner... I really just have no explanation for this? But maybe you have thoughts

Thinking about it Pen being redeemed was probably a huge straw too, since even since s1 we saw how Pen being the "good boy", the one worthy of redemption, really fucked Angel up. It already sent him back into old habits (listening to Val's messages, drinking), so no surprise that it would affect him

I agree that Angel in the penthouse was high/following Val's command bc it was "in the studio". Angel was in a scared state and reacting as if in self-defense (Husk first with the bottle, then Cherri reaching her hands out). But yeah, he was likely really fully sloshed in s2e1, already off the wagon

I'm definitely thinking the hypno was overall more for Val than for Angel. Vox was able to kill two birds with one stone: mollify Val to not go over and drag Angel back because he now had eyes on him at all times and an eye in the hotel (Angel torture being a bonus) +
