Why a game? I’d love to do that in real life.

Running a contemporary psionic conspiracy game inspired by things like Scanners and Firestarter. Have a pretty standard D&D-esque fantasy on hiatus. Playing in a couple of other fantasy games, and a Star Wars game set around the same time as “The Bad Batch”. All using GURPS.

It’s in the right place to be Wollman Rink. It’s ice-skating in the park. I’m not sure what was going on when the satellite image was taken that had all that color. It shows up on Google Earth, but not Google Maps.

I couldn’t say the class, but to me he looks like Burt Puddleglummer. The first thing I thought when I saw this was, “Look out Toad, Frog is no longer your friend.”

That's a tough call. There's an argument to be made that J.C. Nichols was the prime figure in the invention of auto-dependent suburbs. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVwB...) Levitt industrialized their production with Levittown and made them the default for new development for decades.
The real reason suburbs were built for cars

J.C. Nichols and William Levitt should make the cut.

I made the trips in 2018 Leaf, with an advertised range of 140+. I tried not to go beyond 100 miles between charges. I covered about 500 miles a day.

It does suck that we ended up with the Betamax of charging ports though.

I’ve got a Nissan Leaf (CHAdeMO) that I love. Great for commuting, charge at home and don’t really worry about public charging most of the time. I have taken 1000 mile road trips. Chargers weren’t as convenient as gas stations, but using PlugShare I was always able to find one in range.

It's a bit of a cheat for the Rule Zero side of the argument to bring up GURPS, since it's a very Rule Zero system. It's not a game, or even a 'rules system' the way some would define a system. I'd put it in a class with Fudge, a framework for making your own system, just more detailed than Fudge.

It's a bit more than that. From the Gamemastering chapter: "Rules are guidelines . . . the designers’ opinion about how things ought to go. But as long as the GM is fair and consistent, he can change any number, any cost, any rule." GURPS has advice for new skills, advantages, disadvantages, etc.
February 14, 2024 at 3:30 PM
How does that philosophy relate to a core rulebook like GURPS Basic, which explicitly states all the rules in the book are guidelines, and the GM can change anything to make the game they want?

Would you have to charge?

You should take a look at Ars Magica.

GURPS is very modular, so it can be run as rules-light or heavy as you like. I think a lot of people don’t like paring it down to just what they need or want. Also, it can feel strange having a book of over 500 pages of rules and *not* using most of them.

GURPS Horror, by Ken Hite is one of the best roleplaying books about the horror genre.

Take a look at GURPS. Combat can be brutal, and there are options that can make it even more lethal, like the bleeding rules. It has several social traits and influence skills. Social Engineering is an entire supplement on how to use them to add depth to social interactions.

GURPS will always be a trad game, with task-oriented rolls. It can have a very wide range of play-styles from very rules light to extremely crunchy, and it has meta-currency options to grant an amount of narrative control to players.

There is, of course, GURPS Dragons.
