Ancient cultures thought the sun, moon, and stars were as close to earth as the clouds. The storm god was more important than the sun god, and he rode atop clouds. In ancient Greek, the word for storm is the same word for goat. I imagine this is because of a goat’s wool being likened to dark clouds.
