A thread explaining our new discovery about humpback whale song published today in Science... We found key statistical properties that characterise all human languages in another species for the first time. We have more in common with whales than we previously thought! doi.org/10.1126/scie...

Thankful to @ukirsc.bsky.social for the chance to give a talk on my master's research today! 🤓
First, we have Amanda Rohr presenting population variation of beluga whales vocal repertoires in the eastern Chukchi and Beaufort Seas.

Hi Bluesky! I’m Amanda. My master's thesis compared 2 beluga whale vocal repertoires from Alaska. Since graduating, I’ve worked as a research assistant in @ellengarland.bsky.social's lab, assisting with her humpback whale research. I'm working on publishing my thesis now -- Stay tuned for updates! 💙
