It’s a real “trust the process” kind of thing…these fabric ones start off quite ugly, but with enough layers eventually they become something. It’s starting to look like a forest, but there is still a ways to go!

I have eight canvases to put together in the floating frames I built over the last week. It’s hard on my hands to get the canvases taught, staple them to the stretcher bars, and to screw them into the frames. But i’ll get it done before my next art fair this weekend!

Just a couple of teeny tiny birds, floating along…

My latest large original, “Reaching Out”, is made with 79 different fabrics!

Today I hung up my artwork at a hospital. It was a weird feeling to be there since that medical system is what I use for my health issues. Seeing the signs and the fixtures and the color scheme made me more anxious than I was anticipating.

It’s that time of year again! Gotta set up my booth strategically in my driveway to try to get a good booth shot for this summer’s art fair applications. It’s a lot of work, and I’m sure my neighbors were confused, but hopefully it pays off.

I just love adding a signature on a finished piece that I have been imagining for years.

Even though I have been making art in some way for my whole life, I am still surprised by the ebbs and flows of creativity - a month ago I could barely go into my art studio. Now, I am plugging away on my latest piece even though I have a cold and should probably be “resting”.

Past Me was very kind to Current Me and thought ahead - at this point I have totally covered up my original drawing with fabric. So early on I traced my sketch on some parchment paper and am at the point where it is an incredibly useful guide while working on these final layers. Good job, Past Me!

I found some beautiful batik fabrics to add to this piece, and they are the perfect transition between water, land, and foliage in this landscape.

Trying to make a good chunk of progress on this fabric collage today.

There is something special about making art and singing along to the same songs you listened to when making art 20 years ago.

Throwback to when I was working on my bookstore piece made with glued embroidery floss - this eventually became “Learning Boldness”, which sold the first day of the first show I had it shown at!

While I truly believe that a lot of times the secret to getting out of an art-making rut is buying more art supplies, that is a dangerous way to live life.

It is time to start thinking about my next large piece to make out of glued embroidery floss. This is my 2024 accomplishment - “Glass Oasis” depicting the conservatory at Como Zoo in St. Paul, MN. It is 11” x 14” and was made using 97 colors of embroidery floss.

I heard this song today for the first time in a long time, and it feels as appropriate now as when it was written in the 1850s. This version is sad, but beautifully speaks about empathy.

When I left my house this morning, it was -16 degrees. How is this the same place where just a few months ago I was in a hot art fair tent hiding from the sun?! Days like this make me feel like my bones will never be warm again.

In honor of trying to figure out yet another algorithm, here is a butterfly. Made out of embroidery floss.

I have spent so much time staring at this in process artwork, that I could have had it finished by now. At this rate Joann’s is going to close before I finish it and I won’t be able to buy more fabric to replace what I use.

I can’t believe I used to lay awake at night, in silence, just thinking. Every night. Granted, I usually stumbled across my best art ideas at 2 AM in that anxious stillness. So maybe not endlessly scrolling on TikTok at night will be for the better? How did I do this??
