Angela Barrett also created intricate and beautiful illustrations for The Hidden House by Martin Waddell which added hugely to the poignant and slightly melancholy tone of the book. It’s a stunning collaboration.

I’d like to congratulate all the shortlisted individual booksellers on their well-deserved recognition - have a wonderful evening! I was thrilled to bring home the #nibbie to our book-licking dog, Otto, last year - he hopes the 2025 trophy gets similar amounts of love! #britishbookawards

Couldn’t agree more! Nothing beats the joy of owning a book you enjoy reading. As a bookseller, I love when children share what they thought or felt about a book - those book chats are the best!
It's World Book Day!

Dressing up is fun, but it's not the purpose of World Book Day. Every child deserves a book to call their own, and that's why the World Book Day books matter. For some children, these books are the first books they've owned.

Like many, I’ve had some dreadful years recently, but not 2024! I graduated from TCD (M.Phil children’s literature), returned as a PhD student, won a Nibbie, celebrated with amazing colleagues, and saw Ireland win rowing gold in Paris. Years like this don’t often happen, I’ll treasure the memories.

This is an exemplary short story, it’s taut, compelling and leaves the protagonist alive in your mind as you speculate about what happens next. A worthy winner which showcases what can be achieved in this form.

I finished his novel The Sleepers on the Hill (1973) this evening, a gripping, tense mystery with an amazingly acute sense of place - all told in just over 120 pages. Not a word wasted, a wonderful writer.

An exceptional book, age 10+ but totally worth buying this beautiful hardback and keeping it for someone to grow into!

Otto and I are utterly delighted that Fia and the Last Snow Deer is @thetimes.com Children’s Book of the Week. Dermot Flynn’s artistry in illustration is the perfect complement to Eilish Fisher’s artistry with words. An outstanding and unique verse novel I would recommend to any/everyone.

His novels deserve far more recognition than they’ve gotten, he captured the young teen experience so skilfully. Also, Owl Babies has a special place in my heart - one of the few books each of my children loved wholeheartedly. Congratulations to a giant of children’s literature!
Amazing news and so well deserved!
