Today I met Teddy the Thrift Store Dog whose face looks like her butt. She watches cartoons. Her owner told me she is a Tik Tok celebrity. Today was a good day.

Excellent turn out for Greenville, NC #NoKings rally. Unicorns, saxophones, babies and American flags. Very scary stuff! 😀

Another side effect: the incidents of rape on my campus. Equally disturbing is the fact that the university is no longer emailing the entire campus with an alert (they used to do this). We only find out in the local news:

New installment in the continuing adventures of Amanda vs AI. This week I embedded a ? (in white typeface so that students who cut & paste into ChatGPT will answer it). I asked them to make their answer to a ? about PARIS IS BURNING into a poem. Chat GPT: you are no poet!

Just started my role as the protagonist in a horror film:
Me: I’m using these as Halloween props.
Goodwill clerk: That’s what I figured.
Me: lol really soooky
Him: I’m so glad these will finally be out of here…
Me: have they been here a long time?
Him: oh yeah.
Me: 🫠

yes! This was thankfully an unusual occurrence for our generation without the internet. The only other way to see "snuff" films were the FACES OF DEATH series.

That's how Gen X kiddos across PA ended up accidentally watching a snuff video instead of going sledding. Wild times.

In 1987, I was 11 and I was home alone during a snow day watching TV (WEBSTER rerun, I think) when the show was interrupted by live news coverage of a press conference held by disgraced PA Treasurer, Budd Dwyer. That's how I (and many other kids) ended up watching a live suicide on TV.

I love when students say "I hated this movie!" and then proceed to talk about it in depth for the entire class.

I bought a Lafufu because my soft brain is easily shaped by popular culture and I’m filled with a temporary happiness that blocks out the horrors of the world.
Her name is Doris.

When I had my first day back in 2007, I never thought I’d be here 19 years later. But here I am, for better or worse. #pirates #ECU

The fairy house grew exponentially this summer with a ton of new additions. But the other day I saw someone had taken a rock and smashed the structure, along with several items inside. It’s so sad to me that someone would destroy such a lovely thing so I rebuilt it and wrote a note:

I like my policy because it requires the student to talk to me about their work. Generally, students who cheat want to save time/avoid me and so knowing that AI could land them in office hours is a deterrent. It will also cut down on repeat offenders.

3. Equity, Access, and Bias
Researchers found that one of the most popular generative-AI tools agreed with false statements up to one-quarter of the time.
Fake citations risk of adding even more bad info/fake news into information ecosystem
AI spreads harmful, racially biased content.

2. Environmental Impact
“What is different about generative AI is the power density it requires. Fundamentally, it is just computing, but a generative AI training cluster might consume seven or eight times more energy than a typical computing workload,” says Noman Bashir

Whoops I should have said I saw Guernica at the Reina Sofia museum! Their surrealist collection is amazing and they had UN CHIEN ANDALOU projected on a wall on continuous loop!
July 9, 2025 at 5:12 PM
This has never happened to me before but I got teary seeing Guernica IRL at the Prado. Maybe it’s the scale, maybe it’s because I love Picasso, maybe it’s because America is on the brink of Civil War? But holy shit
