People from across the city came together to say YES to change, YES to a city that works for all of us, & YES to accountable leadership that is committed to working with residents to get it done. For the future of our democracy, we must uphold the will of these delegates.

The Minneapolis DFL’s endorsement of Senator Omar Fateh is a resounding message that Minneapolis is ready for new leadership. This was made clear when nearly 70% of Minneapolis DFL delegates rejected Jacob Frey on the first ballot.

We spent hours in dialogue about our collective decision. Despite ongoing delay tactics, including relentless motions to change rules we had already voted on & an attempt from Frey's campaign to deny quorum, the majority of delegates stayed late to vote for change in Minneapolis.

Throughout the day, delegates received clear and consistent updates and explanations about the agenda and process from convention chairs and party leadership. We decided together by voting on motions about how we wanted to proceed at every step of the way.

I was a delegate at the Mpls convention, along with about 50 TakeAction MN members. We came to support @omarfatehmn.com and have deep, values-based conversations with our neighbors about the future of our city. What stood out to me most that day was our very practice of democracy.

2nd - Because we need everyone who is with us to take action against rising authoritarianism, which means making our political processes welcoming, accessible, & inclusive. We can't deliver on that without actually honoring the leadership & labor of our volunteers & voters.

1st - Because our albeit imperfect democracy is so violently under attack, we MUST practice & invest in democracy in all the ways we can. That's part of resistance. And in MN, we have a strong tradition of practicing democracy within our caucus & convention process
