We welcome the federal government’s commitment to establishing an Australian Centre for Disease Control (CDC). It’s essential this independent CDC tackles AMR and other critical One Health challenges.

An alarming new report from @thelancet.com shows millions are dying each year as a result of our failure to tackle the climate crisis. In 2019 we declared climate change a 'health emergency'. It has only worsened since. We need more than words. We need action.

Our hospitals are in logjam following years of underinvestment. We need state and territory governments and the federal government to commit to both increase funding our public hospitals to expand capacity and improve performance.

Health ministers are absolutely correct, confirmed in our ongoing research on the causes of logjam in our hospitals. This is one piece of the puzzle which needs solutions if we are to clear the hospital logjam.

Our hospitals are in logjam.

Patients can't move through the system due to exit block or 'bed block', with flow-on effects right through to long ED waits and ambulance ramping.

We need urgent funding reform from state and fed govts to expand capacity and improve performance.

Experiences like this shine a light on the 'hidden' waitlist, or the years many patients wait to even see a specialist before joining the elective — really, essential — surgery waitlist. Years lost to pain and suffering.

6000 people waiting for so-called elective — really, essential — surgeries in SA as hospitals remain in a state of logjam. We need state and federal govts to fix the funding formula to help expand hospital capacity and improve performance.

SA didn't need an investigation to find out that "exit block" is one of the biggest problems contributing to ambulance ramping. We've been saying it all along…

Patients left in hospital foyers and corridors, waiting for hours to receive treatment as nurses are rostered to 'babysit' them.

This isn't right.

We need state and federal govts to step up and deliver funding reform to clear the logjam in our hospitals.

We need state and federal governments to step up and deliver funding reform to clear the logjam in our public hospitals.

More aged care beds will help exit block, but we need real investment to expand capacity and improve performance.

It's been described as a "no-brainer" so why won't govt implement a small tax on sugary soft drinks? Research shows a 2kg reduction in sugar per person per year and $3.6bn in revenue, which means fewer chronic conditions from obesity, and money to fund preventive health measures.

Alarming reports from Queensland's largest hospital reveal a healthcare system in crisis.

This crisis, fuelled by an influx of flu and COVID patients, has forced the cancellation of non-urgent surgeries, creating dangerous logjams throughout the public health system.

We need urgent funding reform to improve performance and expand capacity in our hospitals.
