hello bluesky, I barely go here anymore (here being bton fandom) but I started writing this in a post-partum haze last spring and it’ll probably never make it out of the drafts so here’s a small snippet!

The early rays of the rising sun glance off the building across from their hospital room, an alchemizing touch to every one of its windows, and Anthony stands there watching with Edmund in his arms, taking stock of himself. He’s always been skeptical of claims from new parents that the experience transformed them unrecognizably, given how shaped his own life has been by the existence of children who were never his own. And yet, with his own baby about—here he checks his watch, which even now he thinks of as his father’s—two hours old, he feels a little chagrined. He’s not completely unrecognizable to himself, not noticeably dissimilar to the Anthony who mopped Kate’s sweat-soaked brow only hours earlier, or the one who ushered her into the hospital the day before. And yet he also doesn’t feel the same. The weight of his son, swaddled in his arms, isn’t anything he hasn’t felt before, but the weight of the word it bestows upon him is a different matter entirely. He’ll have to pass the watch he wears on to this baby someday, he realizes, looking down at the circumference of Edmund’s tiny wrist, barely bigger than his thumb. It sounds nonsensical, unfathomable, and for some reason that’s the thought that finally makes his eyes sting with sudden emotion. Edmund is two hours old. Someday he’ll be eighteen years. Nothing makes sense. Anthony’s been awake for close to forty hours, so maybe that’s why.
