Wherever I’m With You (Putnam 2027), a co-created graphic novel by Suzanne Samin and me, follows two former best friends from the Bronx: Aran, a Syrian American teen, grappling with his mother’s death,
and Tao, a college basketball star, who have to face life and old feelings once Tao moves back.

It’s a warm summer day and the colors are warm with lots of yellow and orange and red Aran and Tao as young adults late at night at a bodega where Aran has his late night shift. Aran sits behind the counter while Tao sits on the counter and they are solving a crossword puzzle together. They are surrounded by bodega items and clutter. The view is a top view looking down in both, like from a security camera. Aran and Tao as young adults at a laundromat late at night. Aran puts some clothes into a dryer, while Tao behind him leans at one of the folding tables and chats with Aran. Both are smiling and are in a casual and good mood. The colors are a bit cooler with some neon lights.

Finally got to read Hello Sunshine by @keezyyoung.bsky.social and woaha do I love it!
What a great book! Not only amazingly drawn, lettered, and paced, but the whole story grabbed me and sucked me right in and made very emotional.

Gotta collect my words to yell about it coherently

Friendly neighbours

It’s a New York neighborhood with small old houses, a bit worn down and askew, it’s early evening and the sun is setting painting the sky in orange. Aran is dressed as Batman, in a diy costume, and Tao as a ninja turtle (diy costume). Tao is about to ring the doorbell of an old house, while Aran stopped at the side way and is letting a black cat. The house they stopped on is old and a bit worn down, with two carved out pumpkins glowing in the front yard and on the steps. From the house window a ghost woman, glowing in green, is looking at Tao as he rings the bell. And a ghost cat glowing in green, is sitting on the ac in front of the window and looks down at Aran petting the living cat. The street is otherwise empty and it’s a bit of a nostalgic and melancholic scene but also warm.
