Excited to share that my article “Ideology and Suffering: What Is Realistic about Critical Theory?”has just been published (open access) in EJPT. I bring radical realism into dialogue with Adorno, exploring both productive common ground and instructive tensions. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

DER HÄNDLER: Der Winter kommt, die Leute brauchen Kleider
Da muß man Baumwolle kaufen

Today, more than 10,000 people took to the streets in Neu-Isenburg to raise their voice against fascism

Yesterday, I defended my doctoral thesis ‘The Tyranny of the Real.’ I’ve rarely been so tired and so grateful: to my family and friends, my two brillant supervisors, Rainer Forst and Dave Estlund, and everybody at @normativeorders.bsky.social. This would’ve never been possible
without them. 🎉

Just read this, it’s from Cohen‘s Gifford Lectures

G. A Cohen in a lecture on his strong identification with the Jewish population in Israel, 25 years ago:

”when Israelis, under whatever provocation, blow up houses and kill men, women, and children in the occupied territories, there is blood on my own hands and I weep with shame.“

The Russian war economy apparently requires merely three months to produce the amount of ammunition and weapons that the whole EU produces in a year.

Kropotkin is so admirably clear. “It is because these few prevent the reminder of men from producing the things they need, and force them to produce, not the necessaries of life for all, but whatever offers the greatest profits to the monopolists. In this is the substance of all socialism.”

Emile is such an incredibly rich, beautiful work; and one can only hope that what Rousseau says in this passage is not wishful thinking.

Yesterday, I submitted my doctoral thesis ”The Tyranny of the Real,“ in which I develop an immanent critique of three variations of realism in political philosophy: the tragic consciousness, the view from somewhere, and radical realism. It’s been a hell of a ride and I’m so happy that’s it’s done! 🍾

“Historically, the rich had to pay hefty taxes on corporate profits, the main source of their income. And the wealth they passed on to their heirs was subject to the estate tax. But both taxes have been gutted in recent decades.”

Writing a thesis on Williams also means that he’s constantly staring at you while you try to make sense of him.

Met this hawk at Yale and he seemed quite flabbergasted.

I went to the Mark Twain House in Hartford today and learned some fun facts, such as: He wrote an essay called “The Awful German Language” and hated the telephone, which, as he thought, would not be a thing of the future (he basically only used it to call the telephone company to complain about it).
