Africa Modelling Network for Neglected Diseases (AM2NTD)

AM2NTD is building mathematical modeling capacity across Africa through training and mentorship, and by responding to country-specific modelling requests, to accelerate the achievement of NTD elimination targets in endemic countries. https://am2ntd.org/
Our fellow Jean Bosco Mbonigaba is attending the #ASTMH Conference, where he shared Rwanda’s progress and strategic shifts toward STH elimination. In his presentation, he shared that despite over a decade of #MDA, STH prevalence remains high in Rwanda. #NTDs #TropMed25

Countries continue to make great progress in the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases #NTDs with some eliminating certain diseases entirely while others reducing them to levels they pose less threat to public health. These African countries have made great progress so far this year.

At AM2NTD, we’re all about modelling a future free of #NTDs, and epidemiological models help us understand, predict, and fight disease.

But not all models are created equal.

Today, let’s talk #geostatistical modelling and how our researchers applied it recently...

As #AM2NTD continues to play its part in the #elimination of #schistosomiasis in endemic countries, and more specifically in Senegal by 2030, we appreciate the fellows for the great progress they made during the training, which ended at the start of the month.

Time really flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it?

We are in the fifth week of our six-week in-person training, and the fellows’ dedication and grit has been splendid! We couldn’t have asked for a better team.

The models will provide insight into who should be targeted for treatment, and the treatment frequencies and coverage required to achieve schisto control and elimination targets (per Senegal #NTD program and WHO roadmap for 2030) at both national and sub-national levels.

The team, which includes Joy Nthiwa, and Florence Wakesho have since March 24 developing statistical and mathematical models to inform Mass Drug Administration strategies for #Schistosomiasis control and elimination in Senegal.

In pursuit of our goal to develop #NTD modelling capacity in Africa, AM2NTD is hosting Didier ADJAKIDJE from Benin and Maryam Diarra of Institut Pasteur de Dakar, Senegal, for a 6-week in-person collaborative training.
