Absolutely! A sane system shouldn't have required him - and none of this disagrees with idea that people aren't personally that important by virtue of the intellectual ability. Parallel discovery is everywhere, so the domain for that personal importance must be much more constrained

No disagreement on the items in the second sentence, but isn't personal importance mostly situational? e.g. Stanislav Petrov didn't need outsized ability, but absent him, there's no guarantee a replacement - or the system - would've provided a safeguard

I don't think that's accurate; the article noted it saved "the city of Flint" $6.2M, and doesn't specify the amount disbursed, but does say that the program was launched by "researchers at Michigan State University"
