Personally love using Linux, but please understand that if it doesn't work for you, it's not your fault (some linux users don't get that for some reason). After you get your SSD situation figured out, it would be a good idea to maybe try it and see if you like it, mint or popos are easy.

Have the same issue with an m1 mini, though since there’s no fingerprint reader it’s “dig through stuff to find the FileVault recovery key” and reset the password in recovery mode. No idea why it happens

Ran into this same issue, it *also* saves the fact you had it turned off in the .directory file, so you’ll have to clean that out too. Forgot the setting name think it’s like “PreviewsShown” or something
