This seems like a good time to remind people that the Stanford Prison Experiment was based on fraudulent data. The "guards" were cruel to the prisoners because Zimbardo told them what he wanted to find with his research, and because they *wanted* to help him prove his point.

Positive relations between incarcerated youth and staff in juvenile justice facilities are marginally associated with reduced rates of self-directed violence over time, highlighting the importance of staff training to foster supportive relationships and prevent self-harm among detained youth.

I’m a Criminal Justice PhD candidate at Michigan State and I study delinquency, the maltreatment-offending relationship, and dual system youth intersecting child welfare & juvenile justice. Most of all, I love teaching undergrads!
