I agree. There should be some sort of "plastic tax" (like the sugar tax (UK)) to discourage frivolous use of plastic.

The rest of the world has been so unfair to the poor USA. Americans make up 4% of the world's population but only have about 34% of the world's wealth. Tragic!

Puerto Rico had a referendum on its status not long ago in which the option of it becoming the 51st state was the winner. For some reason, Trump, so keen on expanding US territory doesn't seem so interested in Puerto Rico.

The right way for states to resolve disputes is by going through international courts. That's what the last Tory government did re the Chagos. And, under Cleverley, they accepted the ruling.
What's the alternative? We renege on this and reinforce the Putin-Trump view that "might is right"?

OK fair enough and good luck in getting them out of power ASAP. I fear we might have the same problem over here in the UK in a few years time.

Yes I know that's how it is, it's like many words that have come to mean something different to what they should mean. But there are too many Americans (not you obviously) who do seem to think that they're entitled to treat the rest of the continent as theirs to lord over. Present POTUS obvs.
January 19, 2026 at 8:57 PM
Thanks for saying this. So few seem to understand it. Part of the reason so many US people seem to think they have some sort of inalienable right to lord it over the rest of the Americas.

He isn't capable of running a bath. It's those creepy ghouls like Miller that are behind this dangerous nonsense.

Can he name one country that is in favour of the US annexing Greenland?

Reform? More like reflux.
Of the nasty, bilious, acidic kind.

Can the BBC stop making Trump the centre of attention of this story? It's about ordinary Iranians bravely protesting not that attention-grabbing goon.

USA = United States of Arrogance.

Fair enough!

Trouble is, nobody else wants him.
January 3, 2026 at 9:03 PM
It is exactly because sovereignty is seen as "sacred" that these problems keep recurring.
We all share the same planet. Countries can't act unilaterally on issues affecting us all.
We need a better way of resolving inter-state disputes, not the current "might is right" direction we're headed on.

If Lowe and his ilk ever got their way they would condemn humanity to everlasting strife and conflict. We must stop his and all other divisive ideologies at every opportunity.

The only 'evidence' he puts forward for the mayor's egregiousness is that his name is Khan. Perhaps he's getting him confused with the baddie from the Star Trek film? Sad.

As a Brit, I didn't know who the mayor of Chicago was. But, as soon as I read 'low IQ' I knew he was talking about a Black person because Trump is that much of an obvious racist. Also, I already know that the mayor has a much higher IQ than the orange idiot.

Shock news: Most people (over the age of 55) were happier 50 years ago because they were 50 years younger.
