Still, Jayce had picked out the finest casket, tombstone, and bouquet of tulips he could find. Viktor would have made fun of him for it. “What do I need those for? I’m dead.” Once he was alone—everyone else peeling off one at time after the brief service, his mother squeezing him into a tight hug before she departed—Jayce laid the tulips down on the freshly turned dirt. The tulips looked brighter against the dark soil. Jayce didn’t know what Viktor favorite color was, all those years together and he’d never thought to ask, but he hoped yellow was okay. He asked now, softly, letting the wind carry away the words he should have spoken long ago, “Viktor, what’s your favorite color?”
