I did think the war profiteering angle was a nice nod to contemporary society, but in terms of Star Wars primary story thread, the idea that the “last” Jedi sparked a resurgence in the force to balance out this new massive Sith threat was a fun twist on the title.

This is why I got goosebumps at the end of The Last Jedi. Seeing that kid force pull the broom, I inferred that witnessing Rey’s escapades had awoken or inspired the downtrodden to embrace their potential. It was the best idea in the film and they just wiped it away in favor of familial lineage.
