This shows that the current discourse around creative AI is still very much dominated by engineers and not by creatives.

Very old and "underperforming" models like SD 1.5 actually have interesting aesthetic qualities, oftentimes a dreamlike aspect which can be in many ways more compelling than your average Nanobanana output.

There is no "best" model; different models provide different results, and generally speaking, different results have a different creative value.

You can very much explore dreamlike illustrations and niche works, or even render solely in your own style.

This is why I think that ultimately we need "trained" artists to create something interesting with tools like @mago.studio ; people who push the tech beyond what's obvious.

In simple terms, we want solo creators and small teams to be able to transform their content into anything they like.

From invisible VFX to style transfer, character replacement, upscaling and much more, we're on a mission to create a new generation of filmmakers.

However, I think that it's always more interesting to see these tools in the hands of real skilled artists and see them become something more than a LinkedIn demo (ironic I know)

I like to see video models and the approach of Mago as a democratization of VFX and CGI, essentially making it more accessible to do things that were not possible without either a small crew or expert technical work.

We're thinking of ways we can scale this up with Mago... doing it for Nosferatu is a bit of a blasphemy but it's been a fun side project (Murnau's work is perfect as is)

Lots of filmmakers come to Mago with older projects, or with the idea of reworking older movies (think 80s action movies with wonky VFX), or even with their own past projects

I'm not sure that's sustainable though.

In contrast, the shortest time to market is achieved by taking whatever API is hot, slapping a minimalistic frontend on top of it and pushing an agressive acqusition campaign.

Most platforms that we see today look more like prototypes that don't reflect real user needs, real use cases or real ways of working with images or videos. It takes time to work with users and figure out what they need.
