Yeah I think they should still do them, just be penalized for letting the game run that long. Or heck, if a tie counts as a loss for everybody, you can just go home after 5 mins of 3v3 didn't resolve it.
Of course for the playoffs they'd need to keep the current system of "no sleep 'till win".

Thinking about this a little more, can we also make the shootout go away, or make games that go to the shootout not count for anything but a loss for both sides?

I like it. Ties in regulation mean next to nothing and actively hurt your standings. Nobody will turtle and hope to win 3v3, that's as bad for your record as losing.

The fact that we're asking teenagers (and sometimes preteens!) to make long-term life decisions means we've lost the plot somewhere. Teenagers should not have that responsibility with not-fully-developed brains.

God that's depressing. I went into college *knowing* I wanted to be a high school English teacher. I finished my first semester *knowing* I did not want to be a high school English teacher.
I can't imagine how much worse that would have been if I had spent years skipping other avenues.

I'm thinking of teams with really fast players like Roope Hintz who has to decide whether to turn and take off or stick back closer to the play. I imagine part of that decision is who got the puck. If it's somebody that can hit him on the fly, he goes. If not, he hangs back.

Looking at this got me thinking--is there a reason why these are half-rink charts and not full-rink charts? It seems like there might be some really interesting stuff looking at how defensive players impact the offensive zone (causing breakaways) or vice-versa (forward causes turnovers).
