It's useful for people who use screen readers and can't see what an image is. Alt text lets the screen reader read a description of the image instead of just saying that there's an image.

(3/3) Does this mean that if I make a followers-only post, other instances might show the post to people who *aren't* following me, or am I interpreting this wrong? Having an account where only followers can see my posts is important to me, so I want to make sure I'm understanding it properly.

(2/3) I notice in the privacy policy for Pixelfed regarding follower-only posts it says "We make a good faith effort to limit the access to those posts only to authorized persons, but other servers may fail to do so."

It's certainly not perfect but I agree with other replies suggesting OnlyOffice. It's worked pretty well for me, and it works even better if you install Microsoft fonts that MS Office documents tend to use.
