HHS is actively engaged in union-busting, and doesn't want to spend 0.02% of their total budget on funding workplace safety and health research at NIOSH (despite the Senate's support), but at least they can afford to give out 2 hours of leave and a hollow platitude! Soooo generous 🙏

In 2010, the NIOSH Mining Program celebrated 100 years of mining research. NIOSH mining is globally respected because it is impartial. The research doesn’t favor regulators or industry. As of May 20, NIOSH mining has not been reinstated and will end this summer.

This is cute. I guess all the work done specifically at NIOSH for firefighters to prevent deaths & injuries in the first place is less important than making this performative holiday after they die. Madness. Speak up and speak out people, these aren't the only first responders at risk #saveNIOSH

So everyone's clear: this is a bald-faced lie.
The "required notice" was in fact, a TERMINATION notice required by the WARN Act (one of the few laws compliance is being attempted for) which mandates notice for mass layoffs. NIOSH workers have been placed on admin leave- no work will be conducted.

The Health Hazard Evaluation Program helps employees, unions, and employers learn whether health hazards are present at their workplace and recommends ways to reduce hazards and prevent work-related illness. Our evaluations are done at no cost to the employees, unions, or employers.

Over 45 million workers across the United States rely on NIOSH approved respirators to stay safe. As of April 1, due to the Reduction in Force across the Department of Health and Human Services no new applications are being accepted in the Respirator Approval Program.
