The building is from about 1800, which might also be the age of the tree.

February means sunset at 5.30 and the promise of spring. Maybe some sunshine and the crocuses will open for the early bees. And overdue pruning of the floppy Hibiscus.

A local history from 1914 asserts that "In 1538 Henry VIII ordered a yew tree to be planted in every churchyard to provide bows. Our ancient yew tree doubtless dates from this time." This one is old, but...500 years old?

After all the world is indeed beautiful and if we were any other creature than man we might be continuously happy in it.

An 1896 farmhouse, left to rot by the MoD. Even the fence is half-hearted.
Tradition has it that the farm was once the home of Colonel Blood, who tried to steal the Crown jewels in 1671. He was caught red-handed, but for reasons unclear pardoned by Charles II.

Minley Manor, built about 1860 in the French Gothic style. From about 1935 to 2014 it was army property. On open days in the 1970s, kids could get a ride around the place in a tank. Now an events venue.

"Shame, ain't it?" said a passing cyclist as I was looking around this ruin. It is Minley Home Farm, built 1896. The MoD owns it and wants to demolish it. Heritage charities are trying to save it.
